politics

i never did figure out politics.
i mean, i've faced it all my life.
and no, i'm not talking about the government.
i'm talking about day to day politics.

politics started, for me, in kindergarten.
watching the power struggle of my classmates.
yes, we were kids, but someone has to rule the coop.
the popular struggle.
then, it was who had all the sweets.

in primary school, there were 2 power struggles i watched.
one was the typical popularity and power quest.
the other was the notorierity and power quest.
being in EM1, i was categorised as a goody two-shoes by the 'hardcore' clique.
but then, within the goody two-shoes clique, i was categorised as hardcore.
this was mainly because i mixed in both groups, and got along okay.
the goody two-shoes had politics based on power (ie. prefects) and popularity with the teachers.
the hardcores had politics based on power (ie. whoever had more gang connections and screwed more girls) and popularity with girls.

in secondary school, there were the popular cliques, the nerds, the band-ees, the geeks, the student leaders, the mat and minah reps.
naturally, another quest for power.
backstabbing, fights, selling everybody else out, giving up on school.
typical.

now polytechnic.
i assumed since everybody were of different age groups, we would all be more mature.
i watched the breakdown of friendships, backstabbing, ditching of friends once their usefulness ran out, biased management, etc.
first, the FAs.
then, samba.
i had really a positive outlook on both of these student organisations when i started.
but it turned out just like anything else.
politics.
i wish everybody could just be fair and get along.
but being humans, we're biased and unfair.

even in cliques, there's backbiting.
maybe i've had enough of this malice for a while.
i've had enough politics to last me a few lifetimes.

happy anniversary,you.
